The DCO Hyderabad addressing the meeting said that the four talukas of Hyderabad district such as talukas Hala, Matiari, Tando Allahyar and Tando Muhammad Khan have been included in the Dera-II programme under which an amount of Rs 600 million would be utilised to provide economic as well as basic living facilities to the inhabitants of far-flung areas of these talukas.
The DCO Hyderabad after detailed discussion about the development proposals in agricultural sector, directed the EDO agriculture for preparing PC-I of model projects about farm reservoirs, sprinkler and trickle irrigating system, mobile veterinary unit one each at drought affected talukas. He also directed for organising agricultural awareness programme/workshop to promote fruit, vegetable and flowers crops including mangoes during the first week of March.
The DCO also asked the EDO agriculture for preparing feasibility report about establishment of nurseries of multidimensional trees such as amaldas, argan, jantar, jaman, babul, polar, etc at each drought affected taluka of the district to reverse the process of environmental degradation and desertification through community forestry. The DCO also asked the EDO agriculture to prepare feasibility report with PC-I for establishment of model project of milk and meat village to provide alternative income generating opportunities to the people of drought affected area. Discussing over the 36 schemes of drinking water facilities placed by the director public health engineering, the DCO Hyderabad asked him to prepare PC-I of these schemes and also prepare the proposals for reuse of drainage effluents of the villages with the consultation of local community so that not only the provision of potable water but also environmental and water conservation problems of the drought affected areas could be solved. He also directed the health management of the district to submit their proposals to address maternity, nutrition and child health problems for improvement and enhancement of basic health care service at the drought affected areas.
EDO community development has also been directed in the meeting to prepare proposals/PC-I to revamp the existing industrial homes and efforts should be made to establish new industrial homes in drought affected areas to encourage womenfolk and promote the handicrafts of Sindh villages with a view to provide more income earning opportunities to the people of drought affected area. He also directed him for preparing a PC-I for the establishment of display centres at main roads of the drought-affected talukas for marketing the handicrafts. He also asked the EDO works & communication for preparing schemes for providing village infrastructure facilities to the people of drought affected areas.
The meeting also discussed over the proposal placed by the agriculture expert M.H. Panhwar about providing irrigation water facilities to 165,000 acres of riverine land of district Hyderabad and decided that the feasibility of the proposal would be evaluated in a separate meeting and if found feasible it would be implemented.
